Introduction to
The Journals of Ian and Elise

Welcome to the lives of two individuals trying to find themselves in a world they do not understand.

Ian is a corporate accountant, stressed about things such as spread sheets and tiered  compensation matrixes.  His starched collar and tie daily life is balanced by his evening voyeuristic diversions and...

Elise.  The goth girl who became a goth woman.  She is a graphic artist who holds down a job with an advertising firm.  Her world has been a constant battle with mood disorders and a continuous string of therapists ever since she was a child.  Elise hides from her inner demons by being consumed in her art.

Come inside and explore the intimate details of their lives, learning more about them from their perceptions of the world and each other.

In the summer of 2001 I was writing at an online diary site which allowed other members to read the entries and even make comments on them.  It became evident that people could really get involved with the day to day happenings of strangers.  Regular readers would interact with me and even ask for more details about one thing or another.  I even found myself reading several diaries on a daily basis.  I followed the relationship struggles of various people and often wished I knew what the partners in these dramas were thinking.

It was then I decided to begin writing some fictional diaries.  I would satisfy my own curiosities to an extent by creating a couple and have them both writing a diary.  Of course, the readers on the site had no awareness of the connection between the two people, so Ian had his own following of readers and Elise had hers.  I didn't really have a way to link the two people together on the diary site, so I would copy each entry to my own personal website for the people who read my other writings.

Ian and Elise are very dear to me for several reasons.  They are not simply characters I have invented.  They are actually pieces of me.  There are bits of both of them evident in my own personality.  Ian, being the cynical man who is an observer in his own world is often lost and on a constant quest for something he can call purpose.  Elise is the dark and moody woman plagued by inner demons and self loathing.  Her life is a fantasy of gothic imagery and angst filled poetry but she has a very fragile and innocent side that is almost childlike.  Their unusual relationship is balanced on mutual sexual obsessions and the occasional realization that for reasons unknown to them they just somehow fit.

This is an unfinished project as of right now, but like so many things in my life, I will return to it one day.
